Me : I’m fine. I’ve come for an MOT.
MOT inspector : It’s too cold to go outside this morning. How is your car?
Me : He is very well thank you. He greets you.
MOT inspector (laughs): Tell him I greet him too.
Me : (pays the 2 pounds MOT fee and leaves with an updated certificate).
I had a nice reply this week from Gordon Brown responding to my suggestion that we get the troops out of Iraq. But it was a much shorter letter than the one I got from Tony Blair seven years ago after I had written telling him not to get involved in the first place.
Bollywood is fast becoming a feature of our social lives here in Kara. The bad ones are terrible, the good ones are great fun. Veer-Zaara is the story of an Indian man who has been unjustly imprisoned in a Pakistani jail for 20 years. As the story unfolds, it gradually becomes clear why he is there. The story was woven around songs that were hits in India in the 1970s. They are still going round in my head several weeks later. Listen to one of the songs.
