I arrived back to the village this morning after six weeks away to find that the house had been broken into. The thieves had taken Emmanuel’s computer and screen, a new printer, crockery, cutlery, an iron, various books and two suitcases.

There are numerous things that I am thankful for :
- my own computer, passport and credit cards are safe because I was travelling with them.
- we have a fairly recent backup of all Emmanuel’s work.
- this didn’t happen in the final stages of preparing my PhD thesis.
- no one was hurt.

In addition to all this, we had already been trying to combat an invasion of termites. They had chosen the kitchen windows and doors for their main course and had moved on to my bedroom for dessert.

I only have two weeks left before leaving for nine months, so my main concern now is to make the house as safe as possible before leaving.
